1. What we collect

When you use HeatBuddy, we may collect:

• Account information — email address when you sign up.
• Price reports — heating oil prices you submit, associated with your account.
• Reviews — ratings and text you write about dealers.
• Favorites — dealers you save to your account.
• Business information — if you claim a dealer listing, business details you provide.
• Usage data — pages visited, actions taken, via analytics (see Section 4).
• Payment information — if you purchase advertising, billing is handled by Stripe. We do not store card numbers.

2. How we use your information

• To display current heating oil prices to other users.
• To authenticate your account and keep it secure.
• To send transactional emails (account confirmation, password reset, ad approval notifications).
• To improve the site based on aggregate usage patterns.
• To process advertising payments and manage ad placements.

We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

3. Data storage

Your data is stored securely using Supabase, hosted on AWS infrastructure. Data is encrypted at rest and in transit.

4. Analytics

We use Vercel Analytics to understand how visitors use the site. This collects anonymous, aggregated data (page views, device type, country) and does not track individuals or use cookies.

5. Cookies

HeatBuddy uses a single session cookie for authentication (provided by Supabase). We do not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking cookies.

6. Third-party services

• Supabase — database and authentication
• Stripe — payment processing for advertisers
• Resend — transactional email delivery
• Vercel — hosting and analytics
• U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) — weekly state-average price data (public dataset)

7. Your rights

You may:

• Request a copy of the data we hold about you.
• Ask us to delete your account and associated data.
• Correct inaccurate information in your account settings.

8. Children

HeatBuddy is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from minors.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We'll update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Continued use of HeatBuddy after changes constitutes acceptance.
